Elements of Language Variation in Palsgrave's "Lesclarcissement De La Langue Francoyse" (1530)

Palsgrave's goal was to formulate a set of grammatical rules which would thoroughly describe the French language for English learners, and he incorporated both literary and non-literary varieties in his model of description.
